What If You Didn’t Fix It?

Here’s an uncomfortable little question for your yoga practice this week:

What happens when you notice something in your body and don’t immediately try to fix it?

Your shoulders are tense.

Your breath is shallow.

Your jaw is clenched.

Your balance is wobbly.

One side feels different from the other.

Something doesn’t move as far as you expected.

What’s the next thought?

For a lot of us, it’s some version of:

Okay. How do I correct that?

And that’s understandable.

We’re surrounded by messages telling us that awareness is valuable primarily because it helps us identify what needs improvement.

Notice your posture so you can correct it.

Notice your breathing so you can regulate it.

Notice your movement patterns so you can improve them.

Notice your body so you can change it.

But what if noticing doesn’t always have to be followed by intervention?

What if sometimes...

Noticing is the practice?
