The Courage to Create Space
Modern culture teaches accumulation.
More goals.
More productivity.
More information.
More commitments.
More content.
More pressure.
More urgency.
The assumption is often that success, happiness, and fulfillment are found through addition.
Yet many wisdom traditions teach something different.
They teach discernment.
They teach simplicity.
They teach the importance of creating space.
This week’s HeartFire theme is Saucha, and while the word is often translated as purity or cleanliness, I find myself returning to a different interpretation:
Creating supportive conditions.
Making room.
Not because emptiness is inherently virtuous.
Because attention is limited.
Energy is limited.
Time is limited.
Every commitment occupies space.
Every habit occupies space.
Every belief occupies space.
Every expectation occupies space.
And eventually we are forced to ask:
Does this still serve the life I am trying to build?
That question is not always comfortable.
Sometimes we discover that we’ve been carrying things out of habit rather than intention.
Sometimes we discover that what once served us has become a burden.
Sometimes we discover that growth requires release.
Over the coming week we’ll explore physical, mental, emotional, digital, and sacred space.
Not in pursuit of perfection.
In pursuit of clarity.
Because clarity often begins where clutter ends.
And the willingness to create space may be one of the most courageous acts of self-care available to us.
