✍️ The Ancestor in the Mirror
When we talk about ancestors, we usually look backward — tracing bloodlines, stories, and DNA.
But at some point in the spiral, we turn around and realize the gaze is being returned. The future is watching.
One day, someone will speak our names the way we whisper the names of those who came before.
That realization changes everything.
I used to think legacy was about grand achievements — books, businesses, movements, monuments. But as I’ve grown, I’ve realized that legacy is lived in smaller, quieter things: the warmth of your presence, the laughter you share, the courage to keep healing what generations before you couldn’t.
My grandfather’s courage didn’t end with him. My grandmother’s grace didn’t vanish with time. They ripple through me — in every story I tell, in every breath of gratitude I take. The Pitṛ live on through us, not as ghosts, but as love embodied.
And now it’s my turn to ripple outward — to model mindfulness for my children, to create community, to teach love as a daily practice. To be the ancestor who listened. Who tried. Who lit candles for strangers and believed in kindness anyway.
You don’t need to be perfect to become a good ancestor. You just need to be present.
To say thank you. To pass the flame forward.
So look in the mirror today.
Meet your own eyes.
And whisper: I am the continuation of their love.
Because you are.
And that is enough.
